Use sun protection and reduce the route if the weather or your energy calls for it. Early starts help, but they do not make extreme heat safe. Do not count on a tomb, a shaded rest area or a drink stall as your only way to cool down. ## Before you go Exposed courts, desert paths and hillside approaches can make a modest-looking visit demanding in hot weather. Check the forecast, choose a shorter route and arrange somewhere cool to rest. A museum only works as a break if its hours and facilities fit the day. Tomb conditions vary with depth, ventilation and visitor numbers. Do not assume that underground means cool. Leave if the space becomes uncomfortable, and allow time to recover between visits. Carry water and drink regularly. Wear lightweight clothing, a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen on exposed skin. If you have been advised to limit fluids or heat affects a condition or medicine, ask a clinician how to plan safely. Headache, dizziness, nausea or unusual weakness in the heat are reasons to stop, move somewhere cool and seek help if symptoms persist or worsen. Confusion, collapse or loss of consciousness can indicate heat stroke: seek emergency medical help immediately and begin cooling the person.
