How do I actually move between the sites — and how do I cross the river?
Getting around Luxor
Group visits by bank. On the east bank, choose walking or a taxi according to the distance, heat and your mobility. For the west bank, arrange a river crossing and onward transport, or a car journey via a road bridge. Agree the route, waiting time, return and total fare before setting out. Confirm the current crossing point rather than relying on an old map.
Before you go
Decide how you will cross before planning the stops. Passenger ferries and private motorboats serve different needs; a car uses a road bridge. Confirm the current landing, operating arrangements and return with your accommodation or transport provider. A sailing felucca is better treated as an outing than as a timed transfer.
On the west bank, agree a circuit with a driver if you want several sites in one morning. Name the stops and discuss waiting time, pick-up points, air conditioning and your return. Distances and exposed roads make transport useful, even when sites look close on a map.
Karnak, Luxor Temple and the museum lie along the east-bank side of the river. Parts of a day here can be done on foot, but judge the heat and pavement conditions for yourself. The Avenue of Sphinxes is an archaeological visit with its own access arrangements, not simply a public shortcut.

If you are considering a balloon flight, research the operator and current requirements separately. Ask about licensing, insurance, weather cancellation and mobility needs; a sunrise photograph is not evidence of safety.
Leave time for the walking inside each site as well as the journey between them. A shorter route with a clear return plan is often more enjoyable than fitting in one extra stop.
